Technical safety and consequence modelling

Safe design and construction require a thorough understanding of the actual safety requirements, project activities, and the range of risk assessment methods. A wide range of safety aspects have to be specified and implemented in design, on the basis of risk assessments.

We support your project with highly qualified personnel who will meet your safety challenges. The main tasks for a safety engineer are to implement the results from the risk analyses into specific design and construction solutions. Other tasks are follow-up of contractors supplying safety systems, and testing of these systems in the commissioning phase.

We provide technical safety services within the following systems:

  • Design accidental loads

  • Process safety

  • Passive fire protection

  • Active fire protection

  • Dropped object protection including material handling

  • Hazardous area classification

  • Integrity of support strucrures

  • Safety functions

  • Life saving equipment

  • Fire & gas detection

  • ESD philosophy

  • Barrier philosophy

Extensive experience

We have extensive experience in specifying and following up passive fire protection and active means like water-based fire fighting systems. Recognised international standards, such as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), will be applied as a basis for design, testing and operation.

Guideline for fire protection

The protection of process equipment in case of fire is a key issue when it comes to hazard control and mitigation. Scandpower has in co-operation with leading oil companies developed a guideline for protection of process equipment exposed to fire. The guideline focused on optimised use of the flare system in combination with use of passive fire protection, material selection, sectionalisation of the process etc.

OLGA

By use of OLGA Scandpower also provide assistance in designing safe and efficient process shut-down systems taking into account the dynamic behaviour of the process.

Lifting, escape and area classification

We also perform evaluation of dropped object protection and lifting restrictions above critical equipment, preparation of area classification charts, specification of safety functions as escape routes, mustering areas, safe haven areas and lifeboats/life-rafts. We also have extensive experience in the configuration and location of gas, fire and smoke detectors.

Structural Integrity

We can evaluate and verify the integrity of structures exposed to accidental loads, such as explosion, fire, impact, dropped objects, etc.

Deterministic analysis

Scandpower is active within transient and disturbance analysis, severe accident analysis, thermal hydraulic analysis, structural mechanical verification, and radiological analysis. We provide our clients with professional help in performing deterministic safety analyses as part of a complete PSA-assignment.

Consequence analysis

We use the latest state-of-the-art consequence modelling tools for calculating physical impact from accidents, including TRACE , developed by SAFER Systems for this type of calculations.

Flow assurance

To us, flow assurance covers issues such as systems regularity, reliability and risk management, in addition to the traditional flow assurance issues such as transient multiphase flow simulations and solids management. Putting all of this together we offer a range of flow assurance services that are as broad as they are innovative.

Marine operations

Marine operations can be complex, often involving a large number of personnel from different organisations. The challenge is to make these people work towards a common goal and to ensure sufficient information is shared so that the operation is safely accomplished.

Structural integrity analysis

One of the most important areas in safety and risk management, structure integrity analysis typically evaluates the global and local structure performance under various conditions.
